Tenacity

Tenacity

One of the most important personality traits for success in life is tenacity. Whether it be at school, work, martial arts or in personal relationships, tenacity is required to reach the pinnacle of success. Tenacity is more than just the “never give up” attitude. It is being determined and relentless in your pursuit of success, all despite difficulties, pain, and setbacks. Certain aspects of tenacity are inborn traits – some people are just more competitive and driven than others. But this trait can also be trained, and the harder you try, and the more you push through a little discomfort, the better you become at being tenacious.

You will never know your true potential unless you push yourself harder then you did yesterday.

Tenacity, or the quality of being persistent and determined, is essential in life for several reasons:

  1. Achieving Goals: Tenacity allows individuals to overcome obstacles and setbacks that arise on the path to
achieving their goals. It keeps them focused and committed, even when faced with challenges or failures.
    2. Resilience in Adversity: Life is full of ups and downs, and tenacity helps individuals bounce back from difficult situations. It enables them to stay strong in the face of adversity and continue moving forward.
    3. Continuous Improvement: Tenacious individuals are willing to put in the effort to learn, grow, and improve. They embrace challenges as opportunities for personal development and never settle for mediocrity. Mediocrity does not just happen. It is deliberately chosen through small choices every day.

TENACITY IS SETTING A GOAL SO BIG YOU CANNOT POSSIBLY ACHIEVE IT...THEN GROWING INTO THE PERSON THAT CAN.

Be tenacious in your pursuit of excellence.

  1. Making Dreams a Reality: Many dreams and aspirations require time, effort, and determination to become a reality. Tenacity helps turn abstract ideas into tangible achievements.
  2.  Overcoming Fear of Failure: Fear of failure can hold people back from pursuing their dreams. Tenacity allows individuals to confront and conquer this fear, knowing that failure is a natural part of the journey to success.
  3. Building Confidence: As people face and overcome challenges through tenacity, their confidence grows. Each accomplishment reinforces their belief in their abilities.
  4. Inspiring Others: Tenacious individuals often become role models for others. Their determination and perseverance can inspire and motivate those around them to strive for their own goals. Your instructors did reach this level of skill without a lot of blood, sweat and tears on the mat. Every instructor you have ever had has suffered injury, illness, setback, losses, and failures. Yet, they stand before you each class offering their time and experience.
  5. Adapting to Change: Life is unpredictable, and tenacity helps people adapt to
change and navigate through uncertain situations. It fosters a flexible and adaptable
    mindset.
  6. Growth and Learning: Tenacious individuals view setbacks and failures as
opportunities to learn and grow. They embrace feedback and use it to improve their
    skills and knowledge.

Here's how tenacity can help you in martial arts

  1. Perseverance in Training: Martial arts require consistent and rigorous training to master techniques, improve physical abilities, and develop muscle memory. Tenacity allows you to stay committed to your training regimen, even during challenging times when progress may seem slow, or obstacles arise. Consistent practice is essential for honing your skills and becoming proficient in martial arts.
  2. Overcoming Challenges: In martial arts, you will encounter various challenges, both physical and
mental. Tenacity helps you push through difficulties, such as learning complex forms, facing formidable opponents, or recovering from injuries. By not giving up easily, you build resilience and determination, enabling you to overcome obstacles that might otherwise discourage you.
  3. Continuous Improvement: Tenacious individuals are always seeking to improve. They have a growth mindset and are willing to put in the effort to refine their techniques, learn new forms, and enhance their overall martial arts abilities. This constant pursuit of improvement is fundamental to becoming a skilled martial artist. The growth mindset also understands that we learn most from our failures and mistakes. When the person who has never suffered loss in their life finally does, they lack the mental tools to deal with it, often sending them into a downward spiral.
  4. Mental Toughness: Tenacity enhances your mental toughness, enabling you to stay focused and maintain composure under pressure. In martial arts competitions or self-defence situations, remaining calm and composed is crucial for making effective decisions and executing techniques accurately.
    5. Goal Achievement: Tenacious individuals set clear goals for their martial arts journey and work relentlessly to achieve them. Whether it is earning a specific belt rank, mastering a challenging
technique, or participating in a tournament, tenacity helps you stay committed to your objectives and
increases the likelihood of accomplishing them.
    6. Respect for the Art: Martial arts often require long-term dedication and a profound respect for the art form. Tenacity allows you to appreciate the martial arts tradition and the journey of self-improvement it entails. By embracing the philosophy and ethics of martial arts, you gain a deeper understanding of the discipline and its principles.
    7. Inspiration to Others: Tenacity is contagious. When others see you run wavering commitment and passion for martial arts, it can inspire them to be more persistent in their own training and pursuit of excellence. As a tenacious martial artist, you can positively influence your training partners and the martial arts community as a whole. Remember that tenacity should be balanced with wisdom and respect for your body's limitations. Overtraining or pushing yourself too hard without proper rest and recovery can lead to burnout or injuries. Listen to your body, and work with your instructors to develop a training plan that fosters tenacity while promoting long-term health and progress in your martial arts journey. Remember, your instructors and instructor team are there to help you! And if your instructor cannot help you, they will find someone who can.

You cannot improve what you do not measure. Write in this EMA Tenacity Journal after every class. If you are working towards your goals, then you should be working on them. Make progress notes, track sets, reps, times – anything you can measure and use to track progress.

I LIVE BY TWO WORDS: TENACITY AND GRATITUDE.

  • The instructors at Excel Chilliwack are excellent. They are great with children, teens and adults. I've seen how much the kids just love their instructors. They are great role models - strict, but caring and loving. The training area is massive and allows plenty of space for training. Highly recommend.

  • My husband and I decided we wanted our girls in something that will teach them discipline, strength, and ways to defend themselves. After looking at a few other places we decided on Excel and it was the best choice ever. The teachers and student helpers are simply amazing and truly care about the children and helping them. We have found our forever home with Excel!

  • I would rate higher if i could. Amazing instructors that actually care about the kids achieving goals and succeeding. I have taken my child to other Karate classes before and it was basically let the kids run around for 30 minutes. Excel is totally different and my child loves going.
