Challenge

Challenge

Having a “GROWTH MINDSET” means always working towards improving
yourself, and that can never happen without CHALLENGING yourself. The difficult part of the GROWTH MINDSET and CHALLENGING yourself is finding the right balance between challenge and boredom. It’s great to
practice something until it becomes mind- numbingly easy, but then you need to move on and CHALLENGE yourself more. Many people prefer to stay within the safety of what they know. Some will purposely not attempt something for fear of looking silly or uncoordinated. The people that garner the MOST respect are those people willing to try no matter what they look like.

PHYSICAL CHALLENGE

For the entire month there are two different types of challenges, something for everyone. You can choose a physical challenge, mental challenge, or both. You can also create your own challenge – perhaps something you have put off for some time now, like a morning stretch routine.

Beginner: 10 push-ups or 10 squats every
day this month! You can do them all at
once or spread them out throughout the
day!

Intermediate: 25 push-ups or 25 squats
per day this month! That’s 775 TOTAL if
you do it every day!

Advanced: 10 push-ups or 10 squats every
hour of the work or school day. This should
be something like 80 per day.

Don't let negative thoughts steal your today.

Box Breathing

Box Breathing for 2 minutes every single day! Breathe in for a count of 4, hold full for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 4, and hold empty for a count of 4. Take a regular breath, and repeat 2-4 more times. Do this whenever you are anxious or worried about something.

CHALLENGE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

This week we challenge the negative thoughts you have. Everyone has negative thoughts. When you have a negative thought, you can help yourself feel better if you
replace it with a more realistic and helpful perspective.

I can’t do anything right. < Sometimes I get things wrong and that’s ok. Everyone does.

I will never be any good. < It’s takes time to be good at something. I’ll keep trying!

I better not cry. < Crying is normal for boys and girls! And sometimes it helps!

Maybe people will laugh at me. < They probably won’t even notice or will make similar mistakes.

USE STOPP TO CURB NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
S: STOP – stop what you are doing.
T: TAKE A BREATH – after you stop, take a step back and calm yourself with breathwork.
O: OBSERVE – what thoughts are you having, how does my body feel, how am I feeling and behaving right now?
P: PLAN – what is the most important thing for me to do right now.
P: PROCEED – full steam ahead once you have a new plan.

What we tell ourselves about the world around us is a powerful tool.
We improve when we face our challenges

CHALLENGES CAN REQUIRE HELP

CHALLENGING MY NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

A negative thought I have is:___________________________________________________
Can I be 100% sure this thought is true? Yes____No____Maybe____

If my good friend had this thought, what would I tell them?
___________________________________________________________________________

What is a more helpful and realistic thought?
___________________________________________________________________________

When faced with a challenge, we often give up if we don’t succeed at first. And we do this before asking for help. You would be surprised how many people have had the same struggles as you but found a way to work through it. Maybe they got help from someone else, or figured it out themselves, but most people are very happy to share how they achieved success. When you face a challenge, make a challenge tree.

CHALLENGE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

TOP 6 CHALLENGES CHILDREN FACE – For the instructors – supplemental info. It’s important to be aware of the challenges children of today face. When we understand them, we can help them, or guide them in the right direction.

1. STICKING TO A ROUTINE - The school day is full of breaks, changes, and different kinds of learning which occur almost like clockwork. Establishing routines is important for a child’s social development. They learn to become comfortable with the world around them, build skills in safe environments, and ensure they can cope with the challenges of school.

2. CYBERBULLYING - Cyber Bullying is a very difficult thing to escape when so much of a child’s social and personal identity is shaped by the time they spend online. The internet and social media have become our kids’ meeting place, much like parks or malls were for other generations. With the ability to say anything, or be anyone, the online world is dangerous because it can be used to spread rumours and allow people to say things they normally wouldn’t say in real life. Along with many bulling and kids’ helplines, schools are a great resource to put an end to the bullying. All schools will have a Cyberbullying plan in place.

There is no such thing as a stress-free life. everyone faces challenges

it's how we deal with those challenges that determines our future
  • The instructors at Excel Chilliwack are excellent. They are great with children, teens and adults. I've seen how much the kids just love their instructors. They are great role models - strict, but caring and loving. The training area is massive and allows plenty of space for training. Highly recommend.

  • My husband and I decided we wanted our girls in something that will teach them discipline, strength, and ways to defend themselves. After looking at a few other places we decided on Excel and it was the best choice ever. The teachers and student helpers are simply amazing and truly care about the children and helping them. We have found our forever home with Excel!

  • I would rate higher if i could. Amazing instructors that actually care about the kids achieving goals and succeeding. I have taken my child to other Karate classes before and it was basically let the kids run around for 30 minutes. Excel is totally different and my child loves going. Thank-you to Adam and his amazing team.
