Training Schedule

At Excel Martial Arts, we teach mixed martial arts across our structured belt level system. To accomplish this, we have broken down our training into 6 specific training days. Each day has a purpose that supports creating a well rounded martial artist and human being. We want our students to be confident, safe and good people. Here is how each day works:

A Day - Foundations

Foundations Day is an important focus for martial arts training. The foundational skills of martial arts are a building block for more advanced techniques. On this day we focus on punching, kicking, stances, and proper form. These techniques are practiced from white belt to black belt. Learning the basics is a lot of fun and builds self esteem as your skills grow.

B Day - Sparring

Sparring Day we work with a partner to practice putting our martial art skills into action. Students put on gloves, shin pads, feet gear and chest protectors so we can stay safe while making contact. This day is SPORT based with rules so that students can develop footwork, timing, agility, and spatial awareness. This is a hard working day with lots of sweat where you leave feeling confident and happy that you can defend yourself.

C Day - Forms

Forms Day is where we practice our martial arts ART form. This traditional, but modern practice, incorporates a variety of techniques into a “Form”. As you advance your belt level, the techniques and difficulty increase. Forms are a lot of fun to practice as you are building your martial art skills!

D Day - Self Defense

Self Defense Day is what martial arts was made for. Having the ability to take care of yourself is a life skill that everyone should have. We practice a street-based system where even a beginner can quickly learn how to protect themselves. The instructors are highly trained at taking a serious topic and making it a blast to learn.

E Day - Freestyle

Freestyle Day is a day of instructor’s choice. The instructor may choose techniques or skills from any of the other training days. For the kids, a lot of freestyle days focus on gymnastics and agility training. The adult classes tend to focus on a full body workout.

F Day - Grappling

Grappling Day is where we focus on our ground self defense work. This is where we practice our judo and jiu-jitsu skill sets. Self defense situations can go to the ground so knowing how to take care of yourself in that setting is important. But it is a lot of fun to wrestle with your partner and battle it out!
